Pop a…what now?! ~ Birthday Wishes

Over at the Inspirational Journal, the challenge of the month is 3D, March Monthly Challenge: Add a Little P.O.P. Some of the Inspirational Team have been playing around with Sizzix Pop ‘n’ Cuts. Those looked absolutely cool but I don’t have any. Yup, Spike was a real sad panda 😦

Ahhhh…it’s always good to have friends…friends with different toys ‘cuz you can borrow and share 😉 A big thanks goes to Deana who had loaned me her Pop’n Cuts dies!!! YaY!!! This was one way that I could try it only to realize that it’s fun AND addictive!

Talk about perfect timing, it was my aunt’s birthday this past weekend so I had made her this birthday card.

First I cut out my card base using the Pop n Cuts base without the insert. I ran some foil through the Ornamental Die with a mini heart then through the flourishes embossing folder then sanded it.

I cut another piece of card stock in the Pop n Cuts base, this time with the Label insert in. I cut off about an 1 1/2″ off the top and bottom. I then embossed the top and bottom (the areas before and after the popped up area) with the Regal Flourishes texture fade. Inked up a brayer with embossing ink, rolled it over the embossed areas then sprinkled gold tinsel embossing powder and heat set. I found some pieces of gold foil card stock kicking around and glued them onto the top and bottom. I then stuck my pop n cuts on the card base.

For the flourish, I stuck some Be Creative tape on manila card stock, then cut it using the Elegant Flourishes die. After removing the release paper, I sprinkled the gold tinsel embossing powder then heat set with a heat tool.

I used the Hanging Sign die to cut out a larger piece because the banner from the Regal Crest die was a little too big for the front from the pop n cuts (well for me it was). I then stamped and embossed the sentiment in gold then outlined the piece with Buttercup Liquid Pearls. (I’ve had these for a while now and keep forgetting to use them!)

For the banner, I smushed some brushed corduroy and wild honey distress ink on a craft mat, spritzed it with heirloom gold perfect pearls mists and ran manila card stock through it. Once dry, I die cut it and wrote celebrate with a fine black pen. (I searched high and low for a stamp that would work but couldn’t find one).

Recognize the heart in the top right corner? It’s the inside from the front of the card. That corner needed something! lol

Voilà my Pop n Cuts card! I’ll definitely be adding the Pop n Cuts base and assorted goodies to my wish list that’s for sure! Oh? What did my aunt say, you ask? She absolutely LOVED it! That gold and black decadence is so her! 🙂

Here’s the card I made for Jeffrey’s Birthday 🙂

I hadn’t had the chance to use the Umbrella Man stamp yet but I really wanted to use it for Jeff’s card. I had been watching a few episodes of White Collar in which the art galleries had inspired me.
Alcohol ink worked perfectly with it and the sentiment stamp was simply perfect!

Thanks for dropping in today and enjoy your weekend!
