Cuttlebug Challenge Blog – Be Inspired #22 – Butterflies

It’s once again Wednesday and for the Cuttlebug Challenge Blog this week our challenge is to use digi designs by Sweet and Sassy Stamps…and to use glitter! A challenge that’s right up my alley!

I chose to use the butterfly and used two of them in two different but similar ways on the same card.

The first butterfly is coloured with Copic markers BV02, BV08, V04, V06, G00, BG09. The edges are done with Sugarberry Smooch which I couldn’t resist to use! Angel wings Shimmerz all over top and topped off with 4 Kaiser Teal pearls.

For the second butterfly image, I chose to use colours similar to the ones in the first butterfly but with glitter! I used Glitter Ritz Microfine glitter and the actual colours used are Gunmetal, Purple, Lavender, Liliac Pink and Ice Blue. Over top the glittered butterfly I added liquid glass (aka. Crystal Effects) and let it dry. It took a long while for the thick coat of liquid glass to dry that when the picture was taken 10 hours later, you can still see an opaqueness close to the pearls indicating that it’s still wet! This butterfly is set on top of a Doodle Parts Shapeabilities die cut from Spellbinders and painted with Aqua Marine Shimmerz (Yes, my collection of Shimmerz is now greater than just Angel Wings!)

Here’s how they fit together:

To finish it off I used a Verve sentiment from the Beautiful You Set that I heat embossed and embossed the Marrakech with the D’Vine Swirls EF.

Card Composition:
Paper – Bazzill, Marrakech (Basic Grey)
Stamps – Butterfly Digi (Sweet and Sassy Stamps), Beautiful You (Verve)
Ink – Copics, 05 Black Micron Pen (Sakura), Black Onyx (Versafine)
Embellishments – Microfine Glitter (Glitter Ritz), Teal Pearls (Kaiser), Liquid Glass, Aqua Marine and Angel Wings (Shimmerz), Doodle Parts (Spellbinders), Clear EP, Pop Dots, Sugarberry (Smooch)

I hope you enjoyed the card, I had lots of fun experimenting with it!!
Be sure to drop by the Cuttlebug Challenge Blog to see the creations my DT friends have been up to!

Thanks for taking the time to drop in today!

  1. Spike, this is gorgeous! I love how you have made both of the butterflies slightly different and the glitter and glossed one is beautiful! Love the colours too and a lovely sentiment to finish!
    Hugs Mrs Jx

  2. Love your card Spike…thanks for explaining your different techniques on both! And the sentiment you used couldn’t have been more perfect!
