With all the snow that fell in the Fraser Valley (32cm in Chilliwack), many schools took a snow day today. So I found myself oh so looking for something to do! Not a chance! Wheeeeee! It’s time to make some cards!
With the upcoming new release over at Verve, Julee has done it again and has 4 challenges to precede the release! All of the details are over on the Contests and Challenges area in the Verve forum on Splitcoast. The first challenge is a colour challenge.
When I started this stamping hobby (addiction, obsession, mania, etc.), I picked up the bulk of my supplies from Close to My Heart as I had fallen in love with their paper and acrylic stamps. So for this challenge, I whipped out the Stampin’ Up catalogue and tried to colour match with the supplies I had. What I came up with was Cranberry to replace Riding Hood Red and Desert Sand to replace Kraft. I couldn’t find a colour for Blush Blossom so took out my DCWV textured paper pack, flipped through it and low and behold…something that came close enough!
Can I craft now? I work well with sketch challenges. I have done the odd layout on my own but if I attempted that, it would be the end of January before the completion of this card! I could work with the latest Mojo Monday sketch but wanted to save it for later (why? I don’t have a clue! Just ‘cuz!) so to the past Mojo sketches I went and it was lucky 48.
The background hearts were second generation stamped with Cranberry and the central heart was first generation stamped then embossed in several layers with clear embossing powder to give it that glassy finish and stuck on with a pop dot. I first tried it with liquid glass but it just made the colour turn orange and over time, the colour ran. I originally added some mini-rhinestones to the central heart but it ended up looking like it had the rhinestone pox…so um…no go! I couldn’t find a ribbon that worked to use on the top half of the card so I created a band using the Doily Lace punch but it made the top so heavy that the card looked…um…well it just didn’t look right! I even contemplated adding a few branches underneath the heart to give it some foliage (I don’t know why!) or something but when I used the red and the white branches…well…they kinda looked like arteries and veins…um…not what I was really going for! So I threw in the towel and here we are!
