WHAT?! A distressed card with NO Brown? ~ Spike’s Birthday Palooza Day 3

A couple of weeks ago, it was my BFF’s (Peggy’s) Birthday. As you all know I had been sitting in a creative slump for a short period of time and I really had to A) make a Birthday card [it’s expected, folks I don’t know if you want to come out of the crafting closet…but the moment you do everyone will expect handmade cards! It’s a blessing and a curse! LOL] B) There’s no way I could dip into my pile of already made cards. I had to make a card especially for her, no if’s and’s or buts!

Hmmmmm, I sat back and thought this out. If you go to her blog Made by Me (no this isn’t a shameless plug for her blog, you should already have it bookmarked by now or better yet subscribed to it! LOL), she makes the most fabulous cards. You’ll also be able to see her style, which is different from mine. (If I do have a “style”, it’s whatever I feel like that day and whether it sticks to the wall!) My thought process jumped around quite a bit and there was no way that I would feel comfortable making a card in her style because she’d kick my butt! (not that this is a competition either! LOL) And so I gravitated to getting all inky where I’d be in my happy place! (insert huge Cheshire cat grin here)

Her favourite colour is green, followed by orange and I know she’s got a soft spot for pink. HELLO! Can you say…Summer Distress Inks??? Okay so there’s no orange, two out of three isn’t bad!

Now don’t those colours just inspire you?? I love them! They’re bold, bright and cheer summer on!

I have also been dying to work with the Patchwork Texture Fades folder again because it’s just absolutely fun!

For the embossed areas, I brayered on Library Green archival ink. Check out the bright pink ribbon!! You guessed it! It’s been coloured with the Picked Raspberry Distress Ink!! Can you say…LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

Now if you look towards the raised center area, there’s a die cut piece of acetate (it’s to the left of the pen nib that looks whitish) that was embossed with the same embossing folder. Subtle but there. After all done, I took it apart (have you ever done this??? Dental floss works wonders!) to add on the pearl flourishes ‘cuz well, ladies, we love pearls and bling :)

Don’t forget there’s more crafty Birthday goodness tomorrow by some gals you may recognize!

Thanks for dropping in today, have a wonderful day!

Love,
